Activities for Seniors in North Riverside
North Riverside Recreation
The North Riverside Recreation Department, 2401 S. DesPlaines Ave., offers a wide variety of ongoing activities, special events and trips for seniors throughout the year.
This club is open to residents and non-residents ages 60 and up who want to meet new people and have fun. Our group meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at 11 a.m. in the Village Commons. Activities throughout the year include bingo, lunch, speakers, entertainment and more! For information, call Arlene Biba at (708) 447-3313.
Popcorn and a Movie
North Riverside presents the Movie of the Month on the big screen. All movies and refreshments are FREE but please pre-register by calling the Recreation Department at (708) 442-5515. Movies start at 1 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
North Riverside Library
Seniors can enjoy playing cards, refreshments and socializing every Friday in the library, 2400 S. DesPlaines Ave. The free program is held in the library’s main level meeting room from 10:00 a.m. to noon. In addition, a pizza party is held every summer as well as a Christmas party with a catered lunch.
No registration is required.
The Senior Drop-In is co-sponsored by the North Riverside Public Library and Riverside Township.
North Riverside Public Library offers homebound delivery for North Riverside residents with a valid library card. Library staff will deliver library materials to the residences of patrons who are homebound or have a difficult time getting to the library. Aging Care Connections
Aging Care Connections is a private, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to enrich the quality of life of older adults and their families through a range of programs and services that enhance their well-being and independence. Founded in 1971, Aging Care Connections provides comprehensive services to adults sixty years of age and older in Lyons, Riverside, Proviso, Norwood Park and Leyden Townships. Programs and services include: Adult Protective Services, Aging Well Neighborhood, Benefits Assistance, Caregiver Support Program, Comprehensive Care Coordination, Congregate Meals, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, Home Delivered Meals, Information & Assistance, In-home Assistance, Support Groups, Transitional Care, and Transportation Assistance. Why eat lunch alone when you can dine with friends new and old, and all for just $2.50?
Aging Care Connections’ Congregate Meals program serves older adults (aged 60 and older) with a nutritious lunchtime meal for a suggested donation of $2.50. Meals are served Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.at Salerno’s Pizzeria and Sports Bar, 9301 W 63rd St, Hodgkins.
Stay after your meal to enjoy bingo, crafts, reading discussion groups, board games, and educational programs.

Aging Well Neighborhood
Do you want to get involved in creating an age-friendly community? Or learn about the health and wellness events, programs, and activities happening in your area? Or connect with other like-minded adults near you? If so, we would love to hear from you! The Aging Well Neighborhood program brings together older adults, businesses, healthcare services, social services, and health and wellness education to create a “Health Neighborhood.” The goal of this program is to build a community of services that supports lifelong wellness and an age-friendly community.
